Qigong Classes with Hsaio-Hwa

I have always been interested in the human body - how it moves, how it communicates in
space,

In this Qigong workshop, I shall introduce a sequence of soft movement and breathing exercises which can help to release body tension. I shall also guide each participant to visualise each movement and breathing pattern and explain how to connect these exercise with the Chinese Medicine concept of Channel energy flow.

About me :

When I was a music student in Taiwan I learned about how subtle body movement can affect the quality of the singing voice. Later I discovered dance and began my career as a dancer and choreographer. I was also a dance lecturer in the National Taiwan Art Academy.

I went to London in the late 80's and joined the Laban Centre as I was inspired by the father of European contemporary dance - Rodolf Laban and his concept of studying human movement as well as dance.

When I finished my MA studies at the Laban Centre. I began to explore the area of Tai Chi Ch'uan and Qigong with the English master Rita Harris. The concept of viewing the body movement as the flowing variation of 'Chi' or 'Energy' was very exciting.

I have developed my Tai Chi and Qigong teaching since 2000 both in London and Cornwall with the support of Cornwall Care Trust - I combined my knowledge of
both East and Western movement to create a special Qigong activity for dementia patients in several of their nursing homes.

In 2004, I met the painter Ray Atkins and we began to exchange our concepts of body movement, space and energy.
